WaterAid is a global non-governmental organisation with a mission to ensure that everyone everywhere has access to safe and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene. Founded in 1981 in the UK, the organisation has grown organically into a global federation, containing seven members and operating in 30 countries.
WaterAid’s people and OD capability has grown organically to serve needs across the federation, but without a defined approach to managing one People function consitently. The function needed to be structured to best support all WaterAiders, navigating power dynamics across the federation and ensuring every part of the federation receives the People service most relevant to their unique requirements and needs.
Q5 initially supported the development of a target operating model and high-level organisation design. We then returned to support with the detailed design of the function’s Global and UK-based teams, as well as creating a business case for the overall model.

Q5 have done a fabulous job supporting us to review our People Function operating model. They brought speed, rigour, great methodologies and experience. They quickly gained a really good understanding of the complexities of our federation, listened well to my steers and synthesized huge amounts of information, working with an internal team to create a clear and compelling new model.
